It's worth addressing directly: in 2017, PureVPN provided connection logs to the FBI that helped identify a suspect in a cyberstalking case, despite a privacy policy that said it kept "absolutely no logs." PureVPN's response was that the policy referred to browsing activity specifically, not connection metadata — a distinction that, fairly, wasn't clear to users at the time. Since then, PureVPN rewrote its logging policy for clarity and commissioned KPMG to independently audit its no-logging claims, which it has since passed multiple times, including a more recent "always-on" audit arrangement. The caveat worth knowing: PureVPN hasn't consistently named which firm is currently running that ongoing audit, which is a legitimate transparency gap compared to NordVPN's practice of naming Deloitte and publishing its audit window every time. Our take: PureVPN's practices have materially improved, but if audit transparency is a hard requirement for you, that's a real point in favor of a competitor with a fully public audit trail.

Features and performance
